Welcome to the Weekly Football Pool...
Each week, you will find posted at the end of this thread, the following Sunday's games...We will be starting for week 8's games, as the others had their own thread...and for the record, I was not pressured into putting them all in one thread
Rules..They are simple...
Please copy and paste the picks as they are listed in the thread and submit your winners in the same order...it makes marking them much easier...I will mark them even if you don't do it this way, but I will curse you and your picks for the remainder of the season...
Please either give the name of the city ie San Diego, or the name of the team, ie Chargers, or both is San Diego Chargers...short forums, pet names or initials will not me marked...
Please include your Monday Night Total Points Score...this means the total # of points you expect to be scored by both teams for the Monday Night Game...This is what we ue to break a tie in wins / losses...The tie will be bbroken by the person closest to the actual total point scored, regardless of whether he/she is over or under.
Please submit only one set of pics per person...Couples, please submit only one set of pics...if you do try and squeeze two in, please think about sending them from a different e-mail address
That is it...I think...Oh yes...There has been a much higher level of interest in both participating in the pool and claiming your prize, for those weeks where the prize was Free Admission to Sweet Cheeks...therefore that will be the prize for the rest of the season...If you are a couple or single female, the prize can be used either Fri or Sat...if you are a single male, the prize can only be used on Fridays!
Good luck to all!!! |

OK, so I was yanked away from the laptop and big screen early on Sunday to go shopping for Halloween costumes...and yes, I forgot to submit my picks...And to do so after the games have started, as we all know is bad Football Karma, so this week you don't get to see them, but I went 12-0 Yeah right! Actually I went 6-6 yesterday...tough week...
So here is your update for this weeks Happy Hedonist NFL Football Pool...
We have 2 front runners...well actually 1 front runner and 1 runner on her heels...
A new addition to the football pool, playing in her first week of the season, with a record of 8-4 on Sunday, Lady Longing is technically in the lead. I wish my Lady that I had trusted your Houston pick...I started Leftwich in my fantasy league this week...It's not over, but how do the Jags lose to the Texans? And nice job picking the Tampa Bay Bucs too...Can I borrow your crystal ball? I might not have dropped them in my fantasy league...
Only 1 other player this week...His Royal Highness himself, with her royal hotness at his side, King Myrmidon is within striking distance...here is how it breaks down.
Lady Longing at 8-4 has picked the Dallas Cowboys to win at home tonight against the NY Giants...King Myrmidon, with a record 7-5, has picked the G men to walk into Dallas and upset the Cowboys... technically Dallas is a 3pt fave at home...
Lady Longing expects a 36 point total...The King expects a 33 point total...so, carry the one, dot the i, borrow from my neighbour et voila...
If the NY Giants win and the total point score is 35 pts or higher, Lady Longing is the victor...If the Dallas Cowboys win, regardless of the point total, Lady Longing is the victor.
If the NY Giants win and the total point score is 34 pts or lower, King Myrmidon finally squeaks out a win, and there will be much rejoicing in the kingdom of Myrmidonia!
I will be watching the game tonight and when the result is clear, I shall post the winner! Best of luck to you both!!! |

Had I known that Hasslebeck was going to get himself a boo-boo during the game, I would have re-considered picking Seattle yesterday
We have never met Wilderness, but if we do - I will share with you my magical ways of choosing teams!
And jes so you know....around here - I am just Longing - King M and his Queen are the Royalty in HH Land.
I am a Lady.....but only in the vanilla world. |

A word of advice Longing...if you plan on walking up and whispering something in my ear, I would not do so standing directly in front of me...at least not within about, oh, say, 4.5 inches!!! 5 just to play it safe!
OK...so for anyone who has noticed, I made a small change...prior to this week, each football pool had it's own thread...this was done so it would be easier for me...however, to make it more convenient and more interesting, and so that "management" finally starts cutting me some slack here it has been decided to do all of the rest of the season in this, the new and improved...Weekly Football Pool Thread!!
Please note that the rules are now at the top of the page, or at least they will be once I put them there! This weeks games will be posted below shortly with any instructions specific to this, week 8 of the season!
I also want to thank you all personally for the support that you give us here each week...We have had 6 different winners in the 7 weeks of this pool, which tells me that this is working...and it is only working because of you guys who support it by sending in your pics each week, done correctly and on time...so again, thank you very much to all of the regulars and the too!
Hugs kisses and the occassional lick! |

Tip...have you checked out any of the NFL sites to see who is on the injury report...Here is a site to help you with that!
http://www.nfl.com/injuries
In case you are wondering how to tell, NFL teams must declare their players in one of these 5 categories...
Active: No injury to report so he will not be on the injury report, or his injury is so minor that there is no reason to downgrade the player to one of the other status categories below.
Probable: Whatever the injury is, it is not expected to keep this player from suiting up on Sunday/Monday!
Questionable: The decision has yet to be made whether he will play or not. You must monitor this situation, as it is sometimes a gametime decision.
Doubtful: Expect this player to be wearing a shirt and tie on Sunday. Rare that players upgrade from doubtful to take the field.
Inactive (Out) : Player has been declared inactive for the game and will not play!
Why are these reports crucial to picking the winners in Football Pools? If the player on the report is a key element to a teams offence of defence, it will affect how the team plays the game. If Peyton Manning or Ladanian Tomlinson were out, being that they are the stars of their teams, perhaps you would change your pick for that game. Either way, keeping an eye on the injury reports, gives you a leg up on your competition! |

I will be adding to this pool a couple different weekly features. The above you noticed was a tip to help you in picking the winning team. I shall try and submit that mid week each week. Later in the week I will post this column. In this column I will give you a couple picks that you may want to consider!
Sure thing: Chicago Bears
There is no way on hell's half acre that the San Francisco 49'ers are going to stroll into the Windy City and beat this years Bears team. San Fran is simply too bad and the Bears are simply too good. The 49'ers have a better chance of experiencing an earthquake in Chicago than a win! If I am wrong here, I shall buy a shooter for any player that shows up at one of our Night In The Wilderness events with a copy of this post in hand!
Pick of the week: New Orleans Saints
This one is a bit trickier. The Baltimore Raven DST is playing more like the Baltimore Raven DST that won the Superbowl a few years back...right? Wrong...although they are playing well, ranked 2nd against the run, 7th against the pass and 3rd overall, they are but a shell of their former self. This is why I am picking New Orleans to win this game. The Saints 7th ranked offence is averaging over 350 yards per game, and although they won't get that against the Ravens, they will score more points than the Ravens! This one however, I shall not be buying drinks for! |

A month ago, on Monday Night Football, the Saints had a blowout and
emotional win at the then-newly-reopened New Orleans Superdome. Ever since
that “coming-out party,” the Saints have been a big public team. This
is playing out once again this week, with more than two-thirds of the bets
coming in on the Saints.
The line opened at New Orleans –1, but public money on the Saints has
driven the line up to –2.5. We believe that a tough Baltimore squad –
that has given up just 69 points during its 4-2 start – will be hungry
after two consecutive losses. Taking Baltimore +2.5, when that they have
given up just over 10 points a game – looks like a good value. Baltimore
is coming off a bye week and we expect McNair to be the starting QB.
TAKE BALTIMORE |

Ahhhhhh, when you say we, are you referring to you and Mrs Ram, or is there an organization of professional gamblers that you are representing? Straight up or with the spread, I take the Saints!
This debate will last no longer than the next 49 hours but I believe that the Saints Offence is clicking right now...Reggie Bush gets to outside faster than anyone in the leage right now and is averaging almost 50 yards per game in receiving, which is opening up the running lanes for Deuce which in turn has turned Marques Colston into a viable deep threat...Brees seems to have gotten into the groove...With those weapons, Baltimore won't shut them down...they will slow them down, but not shut them down...New Orleans on the other hand has the 9th ranked defence in the league, allowing only 7 points per game more than Baltimore...Yet Baltimore has the 26th ranked offence in the league...McNair will be rusty if he plays, and Jamal Lewis, unless they place a bag of weed in the end zone, won't score a TD against the Saints Defence, because they will be able to focus on him through lack of a passing attack!
I still go with the Saints, and 2 days from now, 1 of us will have bragging rights! |

The Ravens started the season going 4-0. Things looked great as Steve McNair was doing enough to win and the Ravens' defense allowed just 33 total points over those four games. Then they lose Monday night in Denver in week 5 and follow that with a loss at home to Carolina in week 6. Suddenly no one believes in the Ravens anymore. Well, I am not ready to give up on them. I have reason to believe they will improve on offense and they still have one of the best defenses in the NFL (3rd ranked). Sure, they lost to Denver and Carolina. But, those two teams are playing VERY well right now. Baltimore has held five of six opponents to 14 points or less this year. This defense is awesome. With the switch of play calling abilities to head coach Brian Billick, and an extra week to prepare, I look for the Ravens to improve offensively this week. And don't forget that they have already scored 21+ points three times this year. They've struggled offensively in their ! three other games but two of those were against great defenses: Denver and San Diego. San Diego has the second ranked defense in yards per game and Denver is tops in points allowed per game. So it's not a big surprise that Baltimore didn't have much offensive success against those two. On the flipside, the public is now officially enamored with the Saints. It all started on Monday night in week three when they anhilated the favored Atlanta Falcons. Since then, they kept it close against Carolina and beat Tampa Bay and Philadelphia. And everyone loves Reggie Bush. The Saints are 5-1 SU and ATS and look to be on top of the world. But they are now overvalued in my opinion. This should be closer to a pick'em game. Baltimore's defense is absolutely stifling so expect this Saints offense, so good to date, to struggle for the first time. They have faced some of the league's worst defenses so far in Cleveland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay. They haven't seen anything like this yet and it! will be a rude awakening for an offense that is likley believ! ing thei r own hype to some extent. Baltimore is in a great spot here. They are in desparate need of a win after two straight losses including an upset loss before the bye. The Ravens are 17-4 ATS over the past decade off an upset loss and 21-8 ATS off a home loss! Baltimore wins this game. Take them with the points to boot. |

Here is your much awaited and highly anticipated HH Football Pool Monday Afternoon Update!! Henceforth to be known as the HHFPMAU!
Before I even get started however, please allow me to bow down to the master of the football realm, RAM Couple who effectively outclassed me in picking Baltimore to spank New Orleans...and to boot, it was the Raven defence, as you said, that made all the difference in the world on this one! 2 interceptions ran back for touchdowns...a 13 point victory over the Saints...nuff said, nicely done Bando! Any interest in submitting to this column your pick of the week, and I shall stick to baking cookies and dropping lyrics?!? Let me know!
So here we are with the update...5 people are in the running this week...none of you had a spectacular outting, but with Oakland beating up Pittsburgh, the Browns upsetting the Jets, the Broncos allowing Manning to toss 3 TD's and Jacksonville and Dallas posting huge road wins (Dallas with Romo at the helm), who would say that 8-5 on the day isn't worthy of a chance at this weeks spotlight?
RAM Couple, Longing (again), RBD, FunCupp and Bamboo all have a shot at winning tonight!! All of you finished with 8-5 records...all of you have picked New England to waltz into Minnesota and beat up the Vikings...All of you have predicted a relatively average scoring game! Here are your predictions!
RAM Couple 47 pts (wins if score is 47. 46 ties with RBD)
Longing 37 pts (wins if score = 38 or lower. 39 ties with Funcupp)
RBD 45 pts (wins if score is 44 or 45. 43 ties with Funcupp. 46 ties with RAM)
Funcupp 41 pts (wins if score is 40-42. 39 ties with Longing. 43 ties with RBD)
Bamboo 48 pts (wins if score is 48 or higher)
I think those are all right...my 9 yr old daughter could verify, but she is not here at the moment! Longing hopes for a low scoring game...Bamboo hopes for high scoring game...the rest of you are simply hoping! Best of luck and enjoy tonights game!
Side note...Although Travis Henry did not come through for me in my fantasy league, I was able to post my high score of the season with a solid all around team effort and after starting the season at 0-4, I am now on a 4 game winning streak and sitting a 4-4, and 2nd place in my division! What a turn around! Life is good! |

Well this was a surprise, I must say. Thought I was down and out for the week.
I am now totally regretting my decision to NOT pick Chicago......was hopin those West Coast boys would do some stomping........lol
So tell me Wilderness - what happens if there is another tie after the tie breaker tonight? Looks to me like the possbility for that happening is pretty high, based on the scores chosen. |

Thank You for the break down Wilderness it'll maKE watching the game a bit more interesting for sure...Was just wondering though if there is anybody at 7-6 and picking Minnesota for tonight? And if so would they be in the running with the points since thee would be more of us with a total of 8-6 for the week? Anyway just curious is all sorry to make it more difficult for ya since you do a great job right now RDB7009 |

Longing dear, nice to see you in the running again Your system, although it appears to be working just fine, has a flaw somewhere in there, as I believe you would have been the only person in all North American pools to pick San Fran straight up
As for the question Longing Dahling, if there is a tie AFTER the Monday game, prizes of a free admission to Sweet Cheeks, get awarded to both winners!
Not a bad deal huh?
And RBD, close scrutinization of my pool, is something I encourage, in fact highly recommend...so never be shy to ask questions and point things out for me...as has been proven by Ram Couple on more than occassion, I am but a mere mortal in the realm of football pools...There were a few score sheets at 7-6, as well as a few at 6-7 and a few more at 5-8...one even came in at 4-9...None of the 7-6 sheets however picked Minnesota to win tonight!!! And since New England is already up 7-0 and Minnesota is having trouble moving the ball, perhaps our football fans sense Brady is back in form!!!
Good luck to everyone, the game |

I think it is time to rename this thread "Wilderness Eats Crow"!
Well Brady did his part last night to ensure a high scoring game, by tossing for 375 yards and 4 touchdowns!! Worth a whopping 38 fantasy points by the way for anyone interested!! But the New England defence simply SHUT DOWN the Viking offence, holding them absolutley scoreless through 4 quarters...if not for a Mewelde Moore kick off return for a touchdown, man that guy has wheels, the score would have been 31-0...as it is though, it ended at 31-7 for a total of 38 points and another win by Lady Luck herself, the comeback kid....LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLonging
Longing dear, 2 weeks in a row?!?!? Congratulations...I think it is safe to say that you have stormed back onto the HH scene with a vengeance...and although it may take you some time to get back into the swing of it and actually come on out to Sweet Cheeks for a Fri or Sat night sex-traveganza, your first 2 visits will indeed be free!!!
C'mon folks, let's here it for Longing, the first back to back winner EVER, in the HH Football Pool!! |

Well it's Thursday and you know what that means, right? Today is the day that I stick my neck out on the line by predicting the winners of two of this Sunday's games. Now this info is strictly for entertainment purposes, and if you wish, you can do as Longing did! Ignore this post and win the pool!! Up to you...so to keep the action flowing in the HH Weekly Football Pool, here are my 2 picks!
Sure Thing New York Giants
I could take the Bears again, since they are undefeated and hosting a struggling Dolphin squad with no DST, no QB and no running game, but that would be too easy and let's face it, it was the Miami Dolphins who ruined the 1985 Bears 11-0 start...so this week, I have to say that under no circumstances, are the Houston Texans, going to waltz into Giant Stadium and beat the New York Giants! Not happenin!! No Chance!! And if I am wrong, I will buy a shooter for any pool player this week that comes into Sweet Cheeks for the Big Bad Birthday Bash on Saturday, Nov 25th!! For a sure thing, pick the NY Giants!
Pick of the Week Dallas Cowboys
OK so I was wrong last week when I predicted the Saints would beat the Ravens! And maybe Ram Couple should be the one that you all listen too since he WAS actually right and the Ravens defence DID score to TD's and McNair did have a nice game!! But until Ram Couple decides to burst onto the scene and make his Pick of the Week, you will have me to ignore and win as Longing did last week! But my pick of the week is the Dallas Cowboys going into Washington and taking out the Fuckin Redskins on their home turf!! Tony Romo proved last week that he can play in this league. He has the type of chemistry with TO that Bledsoe didn't. Smart move for a young QB...throw often to your best playmaker!! Washington's 24th ranked defence won't be able to slow them down! Pick Dallas to beat Washington in Washington!
There ya have it folks! |

Tip of the week!...Watch the weather!
Depending on where the game is being played, one of the most crucial things to watch for when picking winners and losers, is the local weather forecast...of course this will not matter in New Orleans or Atlanta where the games are played inside of a dome stadium, but in other cities, weather can have a dramatic impact on the outcome of a game...Take Giant Stadium last week for example...The winds at field level made the passing game very difficult for Eli Manning and Bruce Gradkowski...The final score was 17-3 Giants...Both offences struggled all day...Know your players...Brett Favre seems to be at his best when the snow was flying and the winds were blowing!
By paying attention to the local weather forecasts, you can predict when a running team will have an advantage, when a passing team will have an advantage, when the defences will prevail...and you may get a leg up on your competition!!! |

Ramcouple's pick of the week: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -1 hosting the New Orleans Saints. Take the home team and give the point. It'll be a close game, but the Bucs will prevail. They have covered 5 of the last 6 times these two teams have met.
As for Dallas vs. Washington. Don't be sucked in by the regime change at QB. While Romo did look Brady like and not just because he put Bledsoe into a pair of headphones, he was the recipient of two Christmas gift turnovers from the Carolina Panthers last week. Washington is at home and desperate. This is their season tomorrow. They have nothing to lose. I fully expect them to go full load on blitzing. They will find it a good time to call a blitz on the next play after they called a blitz. In other words just about every play they will go after Romo like no tomorrow because there isnt one. Joe Gibbs is a great coach and he won't go down without a fight. If the game was in Dallas, a different story. Would I bet this game? Probably not. Just saying be careful to not end up in the wilderness on this one.
Other games of value for me: The Titans getting nine points against the Jaguars. These two teams historically stage close affairs.
Watch for Buffalo to treat hosting a patsy like the Packers as their Super Bowl. After this one there won't be many more win opportunities for the Bills. The plus though for Green Bay backers is that Brett Favre has only thrown one intercept in his last three games and they have Ahmet Green rolling again.
Everything said above about the Skins holds true for the Steelers. They will blitzkrieg Jake Plummer who is having a terrible season. There is no tomorrow for the Champs. If they lose this one it is OVER. Desperate teams at home only giving 1 point are value.
Detroit Lions at home are better than their record. Falcons could have a let down here. Line has moved to 6 because so much of the public is buying into Mike Vick becoming a real QB instead of a HB that throws. It's an inflated line so there is value there.
Lastly look for the 49ers to do something with all that value they have being a HOME DOG with 6.5 points to play with. Why you ask? This 49ers team certainly had their share humiliation, but one thing for sure. Each and every time they bounce back by playing 60 minutes of their best football. Last year they were smacked by Philadelphia 42-3 on the road and came home to give Dallas all they could handle, and got the cover. They went to Washington and got hammered 52-17 only to come home and beat Tampa Bay 15-10 as a 10.5 underdog. They got whacked by Seattle and came back and played Jacksonville almost even losing 10-9 at +16. This year they get bounced by KC 41-0 a! nd bounce back and beat Oakland 34-20. This team has proven time and time again that it takes these loses personally. The NFL is about mindset and motivation, more than statistics. Last week once again they were destroyed in Chicago 41-10. They will rise again. This year has already seen Tennessee cover off a 40-7 loss, Atlanta cover off a 23-3 Monday Night humiliation, the Jets come back and win off a 41-0 blowout, and Kansas City come back off a 45-7 drubbing. Ego makes this a very strong play this week. Throw in the bad emotional state of Minnesota (a team that thought they were very good and had high hopes and got exposed by New England), and it's an even stronger play on the dog here. |
