In the latest in the Micheal Vick Dog Fighting scandel, Nike has decided to Drop Vick as part of its product line. For those that don't know about the Vick case. He is a Quarterback for the NFL Alanta Falcons, who has been alleged to hosting Pit bull fights at his multi million dollar home.
While watching the story again today there was some speculation that if convicted guilty, whether he should be able to play in the NFL again. For me it is a no brainer! NO, he should never play again, if found guilty, but alot thought he should be able too.

Its going to be a complicated one coup4..Nike dumping his new shoe line is a good bizz move on their part, I believe IF convicted he should be bannished from the league but until then if not to distracting to the team be allowed to play ball.
Rumbelings are as even LT said but is back peddaling now that dog fighting in the south is a common thing amongst African Americans and Mexicans.
Not that Vick was at the top of fantasy football owners list of QB picks but I am sure he will go undrafted in my leagues

Even if not convicted for whatever reason ,just the simple fact that this was happening at HIS property is reason enough for me to say I hope he has played his last game in the NFL. What went on at the property is nothing short of absolutely fucking disgusting !! Regardless of the outcome of this trial they should swing his 130 million dollar contract directly over to the Humane Society

Micheal Vick....I hope you rot in hell !!!!!!

Football is no different then any other business and employment in an occupation should not be withheld from a person unless they broke the rules of the organization.

As far as allowing such despicable acts, I have always been a fan of allowing someone with his kinda of talent ... talent which is appreciated by fans who are prepared to pay mega buck to watch him via live or TV to earn that salary.

Wherever his contract are and for whatever amount ... his talent should become state property ... that is he no longer owns himself.

Keep interested in playing by paying a couple hundre thou a year ... (more than he'd make anywhere lese and all other money ... athletic or endorsment should be expropriated for such things as the human society.

fans get what they want, talent isnt wasted and an opportunity to funding to combat such despicable acts is improved.

Just a thought on how to make someting good out of bad.

Very true Y....but they dont kill the bulls after the fight. And my opinion remains that I dont give a rats ass if he is convicted. Bottom line is its a fact that it was happening at his property so he knew about it....maybe not the right way to think but Hey thats my opinion only

Personally I believe that any athlete that commits a crime of any nature should be punished according to the law, and if the crime is of a violent nature and harms others including animals, should be banned from the privilege of playing pro sports for life...If convicted...As to the crime itself and our outrage...I think it is a slippery slope to apply our own levels of morality and cultural values to others...Where we get up in arms over things like this, like the seal hunt, like bullfighting (in which the bull does die btw) and other culturally significant activities and practices, others may view the exact same act as a sport, entertainment or profession or in some cases a way to put food on their families table!!! Remember we ourselves are in a lifestyle that millions of people view as perverted and immoral!!

BTW, anyone up for a cockfight this weekend on the cruise?? Wink

Oh and Cup, as I understand it, Nike is currently in a holding pattern...they haven't dropped Vick at this point, they have simply delayed the release of his new shoe pending the outcome of this case!!!

I tend to go along with funcupp on this one. On the news they showed the elaborate set up on Vick's property, and the massive investment that went with it. There is no way in hell that could be set up on ones property not knowing what it was all for. Dog fights are a gross, degrading act...Yes towards mans best friend, and if he is found guilty, he should serve time, and never play the game again...

Stay away from camp is the message NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell just sent to Michael Vick...If there was any question as to how seriously the issues are with Vick, this just ended them...It begs the question, will Vick ever play in the NFL again? One of the most electrifying play makers the NFL has ever seem, and he may have taken his last snap!! I highy doubt it...in fact given the track record, it's quite probable that Vick will suit up this season no matter what happens!!

Not that I agree with that...the league needs to crack down on it's players, not only for this type of stupidity, but for any and all criminal acts perpetrated by it's pro athletes...

This is a quote from a website I checked out...

Quote:
Between the end of the 2006 and start of the 2007 seasons, no fewer than 25 players on 17 of the NFL's 32 teams were arrested for offences such as unlawful use of a weapon and domestic assault. Indeed, nine Cincinnati Bengals players were arrested in nine months. Even two Carolina Panthers cheerleaders got in on the act, sparking a brawl after being caught having sex in some bar toilets.

Deadbeat dads, wife beaters, gun possessions, steroids, DUI's, murders and attempted murders, assaults, sexual assaults, drug trafficking and conspiracy charges, armed robbery...these crimes have resulted in fines, suspensions, firings, probation and even prison time...and many of these athletes have come back and played afterwards...including Jamal Lewis, who spent 4 months in a federal prison for drug charges...What kinda message do we send to the kids when a list like this one comes from only 1 major sport...NFL Football!!

The nfl is a pathetic institution prepared to condemn someone as guilty before they have been tried. Why ... they want to appear squeaky clean even if they are covered in filth ...nonetheless ... the game is interesting.

The NFL is fun, exciting and gives us entertainment but is a fucked league, YES dog fighting is wrong BUT the commish should also be dealing with the cruelty to the humans who made the game what it is today, if you want to read some insight look up Mike Webster who died homeless and broke ...17 years in the nfl 4 superbowl rings and a shitty pension and no health insurance there are many more like him who were shot up with drugs given medical clearance from team doctors to get out onto the field to win at all cost, Webster is not alone countless other players find themselves in the same boat

Goodell wants to clean up the NFL..start there cuz last time I checked dogs and humans were not equal on the food chain

From usa today
"The MLB average pension benefits are three times higher at $36,700 average vs. the NFL's $12,165 average benefit," former cornerback Bernie Parrish says, using a figure based on the average pensions of all retired players, not just recent ones.

"According to Forbes, baseball's gross income is approximately $4.3 billion while the NFL's gross is over $7.1 billion. ... Baseball continues to prosper on less income and higher expenses. There is no excuse not to have the NFL retirement benefits matching MLB's."

I DO NOT think the guy should lose his career in pro football over being charged with dog fighting at his house.
I fail to see how the two are related.....

Perhaps as punishment....he should be forced to spend 1000 hours watching "Lassie" re-runs.

Who could ever hurt a doggy after watching that... *smiles*

If he is guilty .. let him play, give him a $200,000 annual allowance and the remainder be donated to the humane society. or feed hungry children, shelter abused women. Deal with fetal alcohol syndrome ...

Let society use his talents to benefit the very society he has offended.

In my opinion & my experience , anyone so quick to judge someone gulity before a fair trial needs a close examination of themselves first. Very Happy

Normally I would agree with you Ruthy. But the whole set up was on his property and was quite elaborate, rather large arena, including the kennals. There, in my opinion, is no way you could have the sound that kennaled dogs make, never mind fighting dogs ripping each other apart, Dogs being tortured by electrocution, drowning, being shot, and not notice anything happening.

In regards to what you said Ruthy, I was wondering to myself about this...On one hand, I'm ready to send him off to prison...The evidence is overwhelming...but what if Cup...what if one of his cousins or crew was running this behind his back...Vick has more than 1 home, and if he didn't actually live there, it's possible he wouldn't know about it? The process as Ruthy said is there for a reason, and I guess, even though I agree that it looks bad, he should be innocent til proven guilty...

I still ain't gonna draft him as my back up fantasy QB though !! Twisted Evil

Not arguing the fair trial, for sure he deserves one. But lets face it, if it walks like a duck, or in this case a tortured dog.

LoL cousin.....

No no no...If Vick weighs the same as a duck, he therefore must float...and if he floats, then he is made of wood, meaning he is definitely...A LOSER!!!!

I came in here to say the exact same thing and I see you read my mind.

While neither Ruthy or I are football watchers. . . Some of you are soooo fanatic about this stuff (only Sex gets me that excited. <grin>). . . Ruthy & I have been following this topic since couple4u, first brought it up. . . I gotto to say that Vick should be allowed to tell his side of the tale.

BTW. . . I am not so terribly shocked or surprised by Animal fighting. . . Humans all over the world have been doing this and worse. . . since the beginning of time. . . Now what I find really obscene when the fighting is between humans and between nations and between races. . .

Glad we all agree with Ruthy on this. . . In this time and place, Vick is innocent until proven guilty. If proven guilty he'll pay the price. In another time and different place Mr. Vick would be lauded! Razz

LoL I still am trying to find where Ruthy and wild think i said he doesen't deserve a fair trial. I think he does, and his day in court. But having followed the case, I do think it is right to suspened him at the moment. The facts are the facts. He was the licensed owner of the kennal on his property that were used for the dog fights (infact he had to hand in the kennal license with his passport yesterday in court) Whether one is actually involved, or not, as the license holder of the kennal, he is accountable for illegal acts being held under his license. For that, he is suspended with pay until the matter can be cleared, that is the part that makes sense to me. In no way did I advocate for him not to be fairly tried! Believe me after the previous post be ruthy and wild I know what it is like to be tried without a trial lol

Such media attention towards Michael Vick .... I read an article on the weekend in thw Wall Street Journal ... the race where horses die ... a 70 year old tradition where they run the horses down a 62 deg slope ... some break their backs, some legs ... oh yeah then there is steeplechase ....

M. Vick is no saint .... if a white tradition needs to be upheld ... they dont have there unrelated careers taken from then ...why then is Vick's????

I dont get it .... there is a lot of hypocrisy when it comes to a successful black man! Heaven help him if he do anything even remotely hard for liberal's to accept!

Boy the conservative/KKK types must love it!

Thats right...Damn, we are found out. This whole thing is about keeping the black man down, nothing to do with the wanton maiming, and killing of dogs.

the dogs are vicious dogs .. bred to attack and kill ... banned in a lot of places ... how many horses have such temperments ... nobody wants to see any animal hurt ... but ... the white man gets a second chance ... the black man ... blew it ... he was lucky to get a firsat chance!

but nice to see people showing their true white colours and defending dogs instead of a man and not giving a shit about other animals.

A man can defend and stand up for his own actions....as for the dogs let them off their leashes in a cage with Vick and his buddies and they will defend themselves quite fine as well.
